Thank you for your interest in employment with Hernando County Government. The following information has been prepared with you in mind. We hope you find it useful. Please feel free to contact the Human Resources Department if you have any questions regarding employment that have not been answered with this publication.

The function of the Human Resources Department is to provide professional assistance in the planning, development and administrative functions of human resource management for the departments under the jurisdiction of the Board of County Commissioners. Applications are accepted in the Human Resources Department for open positions.Picture of first page of employment application

Application forms and information about employment opportunities including job descriptions are available on this web site and in the Human Resources Department.

The County Recruitment Bulletin is a publication with a listing of current open positions that is posted in all county offices.

Current recruitment information is also available by calling the Human Resources automated Job Line (352-754-4418) that contain a recorded message of open positions. A touch-tone phone is required to utilize this service.

FILING AN APPLICATION:

Applications can be filed with the Human Resources Department for open positions only. To be considered for open positions, applications must be received (or be currently on file) prior to the posted closing date.

Applications remain on file for a period of 6 months from the date of application. Notification will be given to each applicant verifying receipt of application and the positions applied for.

UPDATING AN APPLICATION:

Applications are recorded in a computer database and placed in our files for 6 months for potential openings.
If the application becomes inactive, a new application must be completed.

EMPLOYMENT PROCEDURES

Selection Process:

When a position opens for recruitment, persons without an application on file may submit one. Persons with active applications fitting the general job qualifications can request that the Human Resources staff submit their application for consideration. Applications must include  the exact title and job number of position being applied for.

Following the posted closing date, all submitted applications for a position are reviewed by the hiring department.

Typing or other applicable tests are conducted with selected applicants prior to an interview.

Interviews are conducted with the best qualified applicants. An applicant is selected to fill the open position from the interview process.

Hiring Process:

After being selected to fill a position, an applicant must successfully complete a character and employment background reference check, a driver's license check (if applicable), FDLE and local criminal history background screening, pre-employment drug test screening, a post-job offer medical history questionnaire, and a pre-employment physical.

The new employee begins work by completing an orientation process conducted by the Human Resources staff.
